Plant Proteins to Claim a Third of the Market by 2054

For nearly a decade, meat consumption has been drastically on the decline in America, but according to Marketwired, plant proteins are stepping in to pick up the slack.

Mercy for Animals wrote about the issue this week, citing a new report by Marketwired which made a major prediction: “Growth of alternative protein sources is poised to accelerate, potentially claiming up to a third of the protein market by 2054, profoundly affecting agriculture, food technology, and end products, according to Lux Research.”

With companies like Beyond Meat, Field Roast, Gardein and Hampton Creek offering plant-based protein options that appeal to mainstream consumers, there are more options than ever for folks looking to cut back on the beef (and chicken and eggs and pork and so on).
