Simpsons Co-Creator and Animal Advocate Sam Simon Dies

In heartbreaking news, Simpsons co-creator and tireless advocate for animals Sam Simon died yesterday at the age of 59, Variety reports.

simon-samSimon was a hero within the animal rights movement. After being diagnosed with  terminal colorectal cancer in 2012, he announced he’d be spending his $100 million fortune on charity causes. A man of his word, he spent his last years saving animals, helping children and stumping tirelessly for his causes.

He was a huge supporter of PETA, Save the Children and his eponymous organization, which helps rescue dogs. After a hefty donation from Simon in 2012, the  Sea Shepherd Conservation Society named their new ship the MY Sam Simon. He even started a vegan food bank called Feeding Families.

He was still sending Tweets on behalf of animals up until a few days ago, most recently lambasting Britney Spears for posting a picture swimming with captive dolphins.
